Color Theory:  Class 4

1.  Share examples of color schemes in website designs
  • According to what we know about color theory, out of the three examples, which one is the "bad" color scheme, and which two are the "good" color schemes?
2.  Color Matching Game
  • Test your color matching skills by clicking here.
  • Focuses on your ability to identify hue, saturation, complementary, analogous, triadic, and tetradic
3.  Analyzing Famous Paintings
  • See how well you can identify the color palettes used by the masters
  • Click here to view the paintings
  • Then use a color scheme website link to analyze the colors in each painting.  Is it monochromatic, complementary, triad,  analogous, etc?
4.  Review using Prezi
  • You can access the Prezi by clicking the link below.  Then, you can then use the left and right arrow keys to move forward and backward through the "slides".  Click here for Prezi review.
5.  Put Your Colors to Work!
  • Create Something EXTRAordinary Out of Something Ordinary!
  • You are a graphic designer and are working with a new client.  This client would like you to create a flyer advertising their new product for the spring.  Due to budget constraints, they can only afford to use one photo in the flyer.
  • Open Microsoft Word and create a new document for your flyer (vertical or horizontal, it is up to you).
  • Decide what ordinary household object or item you are going to feature for your “company” to shine in your flyer.
  • Do a Google search and limit your search to only LARGE results so that you can get the highest quality image.  Please stay away from images with watermarks, if possible.  Download and save your image.
  • Follow the steps that we did in class earlier to analyze the image - check for contrasts, shapes, lines,  textures, colors, etc.
  • Follow the steps in our previous in-class color exercise and use your color wheel (or online color scheme websites) thoughtfully to find a  complementary/analogous/monochromatic/etc color to add as an accent in your design.
  • Try to choose a font that works with your image.
  • Design your flyer!  Come up with a creative relevant company name and add basic contact info.
  • Click here to view examples of past student's work.
