Color Theory:  Class 2

1.  Discuss article, "Where Men See White, Women See Ecru"
  • Do you feel like men and women see color differently?
  • Why do you think color is perceived differently by different genders?
  • Does this translate into occupations and could that affect job performance?
  • Is this even statistically relevant?
  • How much of this is nature versus nurture?
2.  Discuss article, "Color Theory Refresher"
  • What does Albers mean when he wrote in his 1963 book on the interaction of color, "color deceives continually"?
  • What does it mean when we consider a color's interaction with a surrounding color?
3.  Discuss article, "The Powerful Ways Color Can Alter Your Mind"
  • What color is your bedroom, and what does Vanessa Arbuthnott's infographic say about it?
  • What color room makes babies cry the most?  Why do you think?
  • If you had to repaint a room in your house based off of Vanessa's infographic, which room would you repaint and which color would you use?
4.  Share examples of color theory in ad or website designs
  • According to what we know about color theory, what works and what doesn't work?
  • Here's a website that does NOT work.  Why?  http://www.angelfire.com/super/badwebs/
5.  Take an online color hue challenge
  • FACT: 1 out of 255 women and 1 out of 12 men have some form of color vision deficiency. Take the online color challenge, based on the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test.
