- Get internships! Learn what you love to do and what you don't like to do.
- Network with everybody! Look at everyone you meet as an opportunity. Don't be shy, talk to everyone. You would be surprised at the results. Everyone is an opportunity to either lead you to someone who may help you, or help you focus your goals in the right direction.
- Be your own CEO! No one is going to promote you better than YOU. You know your skill set, your assets, your strengths and weaknesses. Promote yourself without being pompous or arrogant. Always stay humble to yourself. Be true to who you are as a designer, a creative individual, and a leader.
...On Creating Your Own Business:
- Starting your own business takes two things: time and money. Make sure you have enough money saved to act as a buffer and enough time to truly commit to your company.
- Talk to other business owners and see what the best strategy is for your niche. Do your research, look at the market, know your competition,
- If you want to do it, just take a leap of faith and do it!
...On Social Media:
- Use it, don't abuse it. Don't over share, don't under share.
- It's so easy to post just about anything on social media. But, it is important to be selective in your posts. There really needs to be a goal or direction in terms of professional social media marketing and public relations strategies.
